Addressing the Realities of Farming at NAMPO 2026
As the dust settles on the NAMPO Park grounds in Bothaville, one clear message remains from this year’s Harvest Day: the South African farmer is a master of adaptation.
Under the 2026 theme, "Resilience through Innovation," conversations focused heavily on the tough economic climate. Facing a challenging price-cost squeeze, rising inputs, and market volatility, modern commercial farmers aren't just looking for another piece of machinery - they are looking for a collaborative partner that delivers precision, speed, and absolute versatility.
At the Manitou stand, we reflected on a global heritage born from this exact need for resilience. Back in 1958, our founder, Marcel Braud, inverted a farm tractor, added a lifting mast, and created the world’s first rough-terrain forklift. He named it "Manitou" - the French term for "handles everything."
One Machine, Many Jobs
That spirit of "handling everything" was alive and well at NAMPO 2026. For today's forward-thinking farmer, true efficiency is defined by consolidation. By relying on versatile workhorses that handle multiple operations, the costly "idle time" that hurts your farm's profitability is eliminated.
Our dedicated team were on-site to guide visitors through our static machine display, highlighting the versatile applications of our tailored material handling solutions and showcasing how Manitou equipment directly lowers your Total Cost of Ownership (TCO):
- Compact Agility: On display were the MLT-X 625 and MLT-X 735 telehandlers. These models are ideal for navigating tight spaces and outbuildings, offering 2.5- and 3.5-tonne capacities with 4-wheel drive. Equipped with the Joystick Switch & Move (JSM) control, they are engineered to ensure operator well-being during long working hours.
- Bulk & Infrastructure Handling: Visitors could view the budget-friendly MXT 840 telehandler, a machine built for medium-height worksites and highly capable of lifting 4 tonnes up to 7.6 metres for tasks like loading lime and gypsum. Meanwhile, the robust MBL-X 920 backhoe loader was showcased as a multi-tasking solution for excavation and drainage.
- Orchard & Yard Logistics: The MC-X 30-4 rough-terrain forklift displayed on the stand represented an excellent option for seamless orchard logistics and warehouse loading. Complementing it were the 1800R and 1640R skid steer loaders. Whether clearing feedlots, working in poultry application, clearing hard surfaces with a sweeper or moving specialised pallets with forks, these loaders eliminate the need for a fleet of single-purpose machines.
